For many students, the toughest part of the written exams for CCIE are the topics that are not covered in the lab portion. Perhaps motivation (or a lack thereof) might have something to do with it. Students realize they are ONLY studying the topic for the written and do not approach it with the same passion as the lab exam topics. Do not fall into this trap! I am really looking forward to the Layer 2 IOS and ASAv coming to Cisco VIRL Personal Edition this month (April 2015). This will permit me to lab up scenarios for my students of R&S that include switching and also to have great practice with many Security technologies at the same time.
