  1. Hi Anthony,

My name is Alcides Magule and I am from Mozambique.
It took me three (3) months to prepare for and pass the Written Exam (CCIE RS). I think it is a different scenario when it comes to the LAB. I would like to know from you what is the best way (and not too expensive way) to prepare for the LAB exam?

    Best regards

    1. It is going to depend on how you like to learn (books vs videos) for example. But one thing you need to decide on right now is how you are going to do the hands on practice. Options to start investigating are GNS3, VIRL, equipment purchase, equipment rental, other simulators.

    1. Yes indeed – will post here the minute I get it from CBT Nuggets. I expect it to be tomorrow.

  2. How much money do I have to spend in hardware in order to pass CCIE?

Is CISCO Modeling Lab the solution for expensive hardware equipment for CCIE.?

    1. For CCIE R&S you could use VIRL – this is the “personal” edition of CML. It is affordable – very much so – but you are going to need a robust server to run it. I use an iMac with 32 GB of RAM. You could use a lesser system – and I will be doing blog posts about more specifics on VIRL. Also – there are other alternatives for equipment as well.

  3. Hello Anthony, I’m about to proceed with my preparation for the CCIE R&S. What do you recomend for this study? Wich manuals or labs are the best ? And what about the bootcamps?

    1. First – figure out how you best like to learn. For example, do you prefer self-paced videos at home – or do you work best with a classroom bootcamp environment for weeks at a time…
